Most likely was a negotiated block piece. Seller calls around looking for buyers, intentions to sell large piece, gets indications and finds the block buyer. Could be multiple block buyers, probably not a two party transaction.
Or did a few blocks and spotty market trading...cleans itup with a closing print moving stock from clients account to cover short in firm inventory account as firm calculates position after the bell.

On ex dividend, the specialist adjusts the price down for the divident. Some traders buy just before dividend, end up getting divident and psychologically, the stock moves right back to prior closing price.
