The 15 all-star growth stocks of the past five years
18 December 1998

Since we didn't want to end on a sour note, we ran a screen to find the companies that have excelled consistently over the past five years. The companies had to have market caps greater than $500 million, shown growth in earnings and revenue of greater than 15% in the past five years, one year and three months -- and be expected by analysts to grow more than 15% in the next year and five years as well. These are truly growth all-stars.

While many familiar names top the list -- such as EMC and Microsoft -- there are some surprises, as well. Many investors are unfamiliar with the tremendous success of annuity sales specialist SunAmerica (SAI), which will disappear into American International Group (AIG) next year, the ubiquitous, super-consistent payroll company Paychex (PAYX) or contract computer equipment builder Solectron (SLR).
