Without going into detail, I held Dell in the early 90's and have followed it since then, and obviously over the last year since I am back in. I don't think there is any 'normal behavior for the last quarter. 3 of the last 8 years looked a little like the current quarter.

1990 - stock gained strongly throughout second half and into 1991

1991 - stock looked a lot like this year, big gains early, then flat

1992 - strong rise throughout the last quarter - but watch out ahead, Dell went over the cliff going into 1993 and didn't regain previous highs until 1995.

1993 - lost more than 50% of its value in first half, recovered only 20% by year end, but last quarter was a steady rise

1994 - steady growth, including 4Q

1995 - declined throughout 4Q

1996 - rose the whole year including 4Q

1997 - we probably all know that story, that was when I bought back in on the decline in December, 4Q was declining.

Hi Frank! Re: Dells performance last 2 yrs Oct-Dec.

Take a look at the chart.

nasdaq.com

You can see last years clearly , but 1996 is hard to see because of splits. I posted some of the posts from the same time frames. Take a look. Go back and see for yourself. Its funny how the same kind of posts were going on at the same times of the month. (g)

I really don't understand people keep saying DELL's underperformance during Oct-Dec period. Last year, during Oct-Dec, we have a serious general market down turn due to the Asian economic crisis. However, in 1996, if I remember correctly, DELL has a huge incredible run which was the beginning of two year strong performance. So, IMHO, this argument of weak Oct-Dec does not explain current DELL's behavior. B.J.
