Good question. You certainly did not hear much in the news media at the time. The FrontLine investigation came years later. I somehow think that since the victims were deemed "religious fanatics" there wasn't a large amount of public sympathy for the victims and without the media investigating and accurate reportage, it disappeared off the radar screen.
