Frank -
There was a single period of about 4 months over the last 8 years where you could have made a bad choice if your horizon was 1 year or less. Anyone content to hold 2 years or more could basically have thrown a dart any time this decade.

I don't have any real concerns for DELL's long term performance. Anyone content to just hold for a year or so will do fine with almost any entry point. My only concerns at the moment are related to 1H99, and even that is driven by the fact that it's a new year, and I can take long term gains on some of my DELL profits.

My idea of diversification is to hold a number of different tech stocks - I don't own anything outside of the tech sector. Everyone ought to own a little LU, a little INTC, a little MSFT, a little CSCO. And of course some DELL and some CPQ. It's a strategy which has yielded better than 50% annualized for the last 5 years. I am no stock wizard, it just seemed to me that this was a kind of 'set and forget' portfolio where some of these horses would be pulling at any given time.
