I stand by my statement. Let me explain my reasoning. Clearly, they had been told that an attack was imminent. However, they had heard it before, and it had not materialized. I watched CNN and MSNBC all afternoon and evening, and it was clear that there were people who were caught by surprise, trying desperately to get home. So I think that the citizens of Baghdad discounted the likelihood of the attack, and certainly until shortly before the actual attack, had no real knowledge of WHEN it would occur.

One of the most poignant things I observe during televised coverage of wartime is the fact that human beings continue to live almost normal lives during these attacks.
