Capt'n what else could he do given the circumstances? Sheesh, the guy can't win. The timing was a must.

Cap'n, I doubt that that the bombing raid, in itself, is going to change the way anyone will vote. At best, it will postpone the vote till Monday (at the latest). What difference can a delay of a few days make?

What bothers me about this bombing raid is something quite different.

First of all, as a certified bleeding heart liberal,<gg>, I fear that it will be ordinary citizens who, once again, will take the brunt of the blow.

Are we prepared to push further, to nail Saddam once and for all? Bush didn't do it, when he had the opportunity -- and the backing.

You have to hand it to Bush: he was a top-notch organizer. He got everyone on board. And when he started comparing Saddam to Hitler, people thought he was determined to get rid of him altogether. But Bush pulled back -- afraid of what might happen if Iraq disintegrated.

So we got a very complicated peace, with fly zones, inspections, etc., etc. It should have been obvious it was not going to hold up. So -- do we have to start all over again from scratch??? An Anglo-American action is going to do what the combined Persian War forces were unable, or unwilling, to do?

And is Iraq that much of a threat? There are doubters out there..

Sincerely wondering.....
