<<I'd be willing to bet that if certain folks on this thread could see
past the one specific issue, they'd find they have more in common than not.>>

I used to think so too, Dan. But eventually I had to conclude that in most cases, no meeting of minds was possible. That is, I think, because Clinton is actually only a side issue; the real issue has been the "character" of those who are anti-impeachment or pro-impeachment (pro-Clinton and anti-Clinton is an oversimplification). The most partisan of the discussants here regard the "other side" as "wicked".

In my personal experience, only the Vietnam War has been as divisive as this whole Clinton free-for-all. The Nixon impeachment did not even come CLOSE to arousing as much mutual animosity.

<< you don't have any interest in down playing the ugliness of the beliefs of les x do you?>> This is correct. Perhaps I wasn't to articulate in expressing my thoughts because I was so stunned that Les would be so stupid as not to see how bankrupt his position is.
You know Dan I am an environmental radical but in spite of that I had no problem in believing the unibomber should get the chair.[ Despite of the uninformed opinion of Church]The passion of our beliefs in itself does not makes them correct. Here in lies the flaw in "the end justifies the means"

Dan,

I'd like to invite you and other libertarians and assorted radical moderates who are caught in the passions and crossfire of the Right-Left polarity here to come over to:

Subject 21768

to initiate a somewhat calmer and more reasoned discussion of this topic. A modest degree of civility is the only prerequisite. :-)
