Inverness Systems Integrates Support for the IDT 77252/77222 SAR Devices into the ATIC(TM) ATM Software Solutions

MARLBOROUGH, Mass., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Inverness Systems, a leading supplier of ATM source level software solutions, today announced that its ATIC™ (ATM Interconnect) software package now includes integrated support for the 77252/77222 Available Bit Rate (ABR) SAR Controllers from IDT (Nasdaq: IDTI - news). The Inverness ATIC software package is a suite of source code modules that implements a variety of ATM protocol standards that reduces time to market and risk for developers of communications equipment which requires high-speed solutions for complex and developing standards.

The drivers for the 77252/77222 are fully integrated into the ATIC™ Low Layer ATM Modules which provide the end user with complete coverage of low layer ATM protocol requirements. The ATIC™ Low Layer ATM Modules complement the capabilities of the IDT77252/77222 SAR Controllers by providing OAM Procedures, RM Cell Handling, Flow Control, AAL-1 and MIB support as required by the application layer. These integrated capabilities can save the ATM equipment manufacturers several man-months of integration, testing and optimization.

The Inverness ATIC ATM software modules are written in ANSI C using advanced object-oriented design principles to let users easily and rapidly integrate them into their software environment. They are hardware and operating system independent and come with full integration to popular real time operating systems including pSOS+ from Integrated Systems (Nasdaq: INTS - news) and VxWorks from Wind River Systems (Nasdaq: WIND - news).

The IDT77252 and IDT77222 ABR SAR Controllers support ATM Adaptation Layer (AAL) types 0, 3/4 and 5, and raw cell formats for Constant Bit Rate (CBR), Variable Bit Rate (VBR), Unassigned Bit Rate (UBR) and ABR. The devices perform both the AAL SAR function and the ATM-layer protocol function. The low-cost single-chip solution also reduces overall system cost by eliminating the need for a front-end processor, as well as any glue logic for interfacing with UTOPIA-compliant ATM PHY devices.

''Inverness Systems is known for offering complete ATM protocol solutions with an unparalleled degree of support for low-level ATM functions and integration with popular ATM controllers.'' stated Carl Hagenmaier, director of IDT's network products division. ''With the addition of integrated support for the newest IDT ABR SAR Controllers, Inverness offers our mutual customers the ability to integrate our devices into the software layer quickly and with minimal effort.''

''This announcement underscores Inverness' commitment to provide total ATM solutions to our customers from the device driver through the highest level of the ATM protocol stack. The result is a far more complete coverage than what is available anywhere else on the market. Inverness drivers are recognized by our customers and semiconductor partners alike as significant value add for our protocol stacks. Having full function drivers already integrated and optimized with the ATM stacks saves many months of effort and gets the most optimized product to market in the shortest amount of time,'' said Bruce Donadt, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Inverness Systems, Inc.
