>>>"General Availability" was a rather poor choice of words. I agree. Actually, the part that stings me is, "The MA IV wearable PC will be available for the first time through the end-user channel in December 1998" which suggests it may not be available to the public right this moment, but instead later this month. This is, IMO, double-talk for the sake of meeting the Dec 16 announcement deadline. Not much of an infraction, but it sure takes the 'punch' out of the release. Based on news over the past several months, I do believe several companies have contracts to receive significant early production, possibly reducing street availability 'at this moment'. I'm suspicious that production lines are moving well, but why hasn't this info been clarified? Why was the press release so vague? While I'm impressed with strategically structured press releases, I get cranky when I read press releases without fresh information for the investor. As far as the price of the unit goes, $5000 is very reasonable for an industrial product like this. Companies looking to incorporate the Xybernaut into their various channels will find the cost benifits far outweigh the price. There are a lot of research costs with this product - it's not at all just a PC clone in a custom case. The cost will necessarily drop if/when it is targeted to become a consumer product, but increased volumes will allow this. Also, an eventual 'consumer' line of Xybernaut product will likely remain distinct and separate from an 'industrial' product line, because industry must plan their purchases to fit a specified need, whereas the consumer wants the highest performance and latest features at the best price. Invariably, the Xybernaut will get cheaper as time moves forward, but currently, the price point should be, and apparently is being, well received by industry. I just wish the press release offered jucier info, like production rates and backlogs. Shoe.
