Fred, S-PCS doesn't have DC. So where's their competition? Plus S_PCS is way behind the curve in building their network. Since their arpu is miles behind NXTL, seems to me that they're targeting the commodity market, not mobile work groups. I don't understand NXTL's need to balkanize or any other kind of "ize" except build out their system as fast as possible and publicize and implement a nationwide one rate plan that includes no additional charge for long distance.

Arnie

P.S. As CBS likes to say, "Welcome home." :-)

Frederick,

Nextel would be best served to look at their users as an network asset pool that needs to be tapped NOW versus in 1-2 years when all of Craig's vision finally comes together.

I am a little bit behind the curve here. What is Craig's vision for the next 1-2 years?

I can bundle/package Nextel's service with literally any business anytime anywhere - my broker at Fidelity, my dentist, doctor, bricklayer, kiddie-pool driver, baby-sitter, etc.

There already is a network for all that. It's the phone network. Do you think Nextel can single-handedly compete and and win?

What is the insentive for me to get a Nextel handset and a subscription for my babysitter. We have a phone at home.

If Nextel wanted to become an alternate phone network, it would become another VHS / Beta competition, with Nextel being on the losing side.

As I said, I may be a little bit behind the curve here, and it may have been posted here, but does Nextel have any strategy to add data capability to their network, preferably packet switched data capability? I know that in my area, Bell Atlantic and Sprint have plans to introduce it in thier digital wireless network in 1999. Bell Atlantic and AT&T already have their CDPD system in the 800 MHz band (but it hasn't exactly taken off)

Joe
