I was interested in your perception of organic chemistry as a black art. Organic chemistry is the only chemistry I actually understand. My husband has a BS in chemical engineering, and after he got rejected by med school he tried pharmacology school, and would up getting a master's in Public Health. His specialty is water purification, and he works at the Patent Office as a patent examiner. His memory for chemical compounds amazes me, he remembers all the ions and charges and molecular structures and everything. He even remembers what drugs are for what, and how they are structured. I think he is very smart, but it's about things that I can't comprehend. I know if I have a question about math or chemistry, I can call him on the phone and he can answer it at the drop of a hat.

The head of the Public Health department wanted him to get a Ph.D. and go into research, but he wouldn't. Apparently he is a genius at designing water purification plants, but it bores him. He likes to put in his eight hours, and collect his paycheck, and all he cares about anymore is listening to music.

And Affymetrix is surely making black art technology. Any Genechips at your work yet?
