Rudedog, thank you for bringing some human perspective to this! I totally agree with your thoughts! I couldn't imagine the horror of such an act. While I agree, for the most part, with the goals of US foreign policy makers, such acts (use of nuclear bombs) must be undertaken only in the gravest of times. Those poor children!

** OT ** rudedog, I agree with you...and I like to add, we have become extremely selfish people... unwilling, and sometimes incapable of looking at the other part of the picture... the end justifies the means to us, whether us is on the individual level, or group level... should we as humans, always do what is legally right, or justifiable without regards to consequences for the great majority that our actions will affect... shouldn't democracy take into account the well being of the majority even if it was not ours...? when you think about it, look at some numbers, you will see what I mean...

best regards
amein

Using nuclear weapons is going way over the edge. This very act would open Pandora's Box thus legitimizing their use in the future. The real question is:

How do we remove Saddam from power that has not already been tried?

RudeDog *OT* Sorry for taking bandwidth on this thread.
Thanks for your thoughts on this matter. One sometimes forgets the human tragedy that almost always accompanies war(whether in Ireland, Bosnia or WWII). Its unimaginable to think of people who are seeing their loved ones maimed, killed and burned. Unfortunately Soddem with his megalomania and brinkmanship has brought this on Iraq's civilians while he enjoys life in some 50 story underground bunker. Some poor infant is going to pay for his misdeeds tonight!
I sincerely hope we get Soddem this time, somehow, anyhow, so we can get over this cathartic exercise of periodically "bombing people to stone age".

Rudy, thanks for providing the more blood-thirsty among us with a reality check. Historically, the perpetrators of these crimes first need to dehumanize their victims. Instead of people they become "Gooks" and "Japs" and "Rag-heads". And instead of death we talk of "collateral damage".

Thanks again.

Russia may ask Lewinsky for help

MOSCOW (AP) -- Russian legislators agreed Thursday to consider a motion appealing to Monica Lewinsky to help halt the American attack on Iraq.

"The State Duma appeals to Ms. Lewinsky to undertake corresponding measures to restrain the emotions of Bill Clinton," said the motion by nationalist lawmaker Alexander Filatov.

The motion was approved on a vote in the Duma, the lower chamber of parliament, to be considered for inclusion in a broader resolution denouncing the attack on Iraq.

The attack by the United States and Britain on Iraq was condemned by almost all major political groups in Russia. The Communists, the largest party in the Duma, also mentioned Clinton and his relationship with the former White House intern.

"Many people link it with Clinton's impeachment and his intimate relations with a certain person, but if these relations develop into such acts of vandalism, than all of U.S. democracy is worth a penny," Communist leader Gennady Zyuganov told a Duma debate on the Iraqi crisis.
