Another point to consider is that "if" institutional investors are short NN stock, but anticipate an up ward movement, then buying call options is a good way to go about avoiding not nesessary risk. In fact, by doing so, they don't put an upward preasure on the stock price, which, as we may now, could raise Newbridge to unreal levels.

As it now looks like the announcement will be delayed past December options expiry,

I'm told the company's working diligently to get the press out before Christmas. If they can do it before the 23rd, they will.

Based on the low volume on the downside, I'm guessing your hypothetical fund managers are smart enough not to shoot their own corporate feet by selling into an announcement lull. It's also possible they know the PR machine hasn't completely shut down for Christmas.
