I echo your prediction, although the thought of the Democrats taking over causes me no pleasure. I simply cannot understand why the GOP seems intent on committing political suicide over this issue.

You're over-estimating the memory of the American people (using your assumption that a majority of Americans disagree with impeachment) to suggest that what is happening now will have much bearing on what happens just under two years from now.

I'm not so certain that America is really against impeachment. I suspect it is a vocal minority that is out trying to convince everyone that this is all just about sex. I certainly would not wager anything on what the polls claim.

Not much has changed in the last month since the election, and yet Republicans maintained a majority in both Houses. That's the only poll that really matters...
