Burt,

I have looked for news everywhere I usually do, I can only assume it is a flight to quality? I also notice a lack of volume so I would say it's not institutional.

Burt Masnick. Re: Intel news. There was a blurb in the "Digits" column in the WSJ today (B4) that Intel replaced the head of the Merced team.

CEO Barrett "...has been more forthcoming about the Merced delay, 'Frankly, it's embarrassing. We've changed managers, and we are getting back to Intel basics."

Doubt if this had much impact.

A more likely cause was the article on 3Q server sales: "Worldwide Revenues softer, unit shipments up" Most of the PC brands were up today except CPQ, which lost share, according to the article.

That's all I've seen.

Burt - Re: " raise the question how come Intel is up 3 and AMD
down a half. "

Yesterday (Wednesday) on the AMD thread, somebody reposted a post form mad albert - which was part of a report by the Genius Erika Klauer - now at Alex Brown - concerning AMD.

She estimated that AMD's ASP (Average Selling Price) has dropped this quarter to about $85 from about $100 last quarter. Units shipments, however, were up from 3.8 million to 4.7 million as I recall.

Although Erika is still very BULLISH on AMD (in 1997 she predicted AMD was going to $90/share), my guess is the realization that AMD's prices are falling may have spooked the serious investors.

Intel's AGGRESSIVE Celeron pricing may have had a LOT to do with AMD's declining CPU prices - and STOCK PRICE !
