dEAR EL: I read somewhere that IBM now has the lowest cost computer and that CPQ decided to surrender that honor to them. So maybe they are picking up at CPQ's expense, but maybe its the business CPQ doesnt want. JDN

EL...Merrill let the ship leave port without them. Last week they upgraded Infoseek based on vapor earnings and refused to consider CPQ for an upgrade till they see the results. They are also one of the few houses still pounding the Dell table. Even with all the smear today only half the average number shares traded, a large percentage of which was at $40 as the market makers picked off all the stops placed there. BTW..You should have gone to the COOL mall, Jimbo hangs there drooling in front of Victoria's Secret. JAJAJAJA

I'm not sure where ML is drawing their conclusions, it looks to me like they are basing their opinion on IDC reports of shifts in the Asia-pacific server market in 3Q. Also it takes a little work to actually unravel what markets and products are being considered. I believe that the report includes AS400, big unix boxes, and maybe even mainframes in the overall analysis. In the Intel-based server market CPQ has more share than the next 2 vendors combined. I would need to go back to the original IDC data to see what is covered in the various statistics.

K - not to worry, I am very bullish on CPQ's enterprise plans for '99, they are just beginning to crank.
