Many of us know he was one of the giants in astronomy and modern science. One of the not so widely known allegations [offhand, I don't have hard material to support my memory, which has been fading as I age <g>, so therefore 'allegation'] is that he had to retrack [part of] his scientific theory when the Church showed him the gallotine. If it is true, the crime and the sin are all tangled up. In order to avoid a sin [punishable by death back then, mind you,] he committed a crime and a sin against his church of "Scientific Truth." Imagine all the fellow scientists of his times who had held him in high esteeem. Wretched betrayal! But hey, it was easy for them to feel the pain of betrayal when their neck was not on the line [uh, gallotine!] Anyway, to be fair, I guess I understand Richard's feeling [and many others who share similar feeling.] These days, we need a hero. Personally, I'd go beyond E's idea of a priest. A hero begins at home. If Richard wants his infant child to grow up with integrity etc., don't abdicate the responsibility to the President. Not the President, not the priests, not the sport stars, not even the teachers, but the parents are the source of integrity [but let's hope not rigidity.] Of course, jmho best, Bosco
