>>> That was not nor ever has been the stated policy nor was it ever promised.

On the contrary, that line was used over and over by US spokepeople in the days when they were trying to build support for the war.

>>> Not to mention on the Kuwaiti side alone it would have been a political fiasco to even try.

There was a point during the war when the Kuwaiti royalty was a collection of discoing party-goers in London who had between them about the same money as Bill Gates has now. Nobody in their country gave a damn about them either, because they refused to fight in the war. Not to mention the over 50% of the country who didn't benefit from the oil system because they were Arabs and others from elsewhere, at least descended from non-Kuwaitis. We had to use our military to reinstall them. That's why they showered Bush with gifts after the war. Don't joke around.

>>>The best result of any conflict with Iraq is Sadaam Hussein remaining in place. He provides the single best chance of keeping the region in turmoil which is a much more desirable option than stabilization.<<<

Cruel and misinformed. It is not in our interest to be party to destroying the lives of hundreds of millions of people, nor is instability in the interest of our friends in the region.

I can't belive that you would think that a man who is a serial torturer, a mass murderer, and a poisoner with every intention of building nuclear, biological, and nerve gas capability is a good bet. This is the kind of political thinking that the US used in Vietnam and Cambodia. Bet you loved that Lon Nol, too.

In the words of one Arab after the 1991 war: "Why can't anyone ever keep a promise to us? Why is it we who the world thinks should be ruled by madmen and Mullahs? Have we no history or culture? Have we made no contribution? Is democracy something that only Europeans are good enough for, or is it just that our lives are worth less than a barrel of oil?"
