I believe Bush had approval ratings over 90% after the Gulf war. The Democrats were portrayed in the press as a dying party. 1 1/2 years later, of course, Bill Clinton was elected. I'm not a fan of the current political efforts to impeach Clinton (nor am I a fan of his)
however I don't think the current events will have much outcome on the
election in 2000.
