GT, Thanks for your post. It is nice to hear from someone that has experience using Gann. I look forward to anything you have to share relating to Gann and the markets. I agree with you about beauty being in the eyes of the beholder.... ditto re: a well written Gann book <G>. Talk to you later Regards, Frank

Good evening All,

As the year comes to an end, I wanted to update Gann's January Effect which I sent
out earlier this year. I think I will post this on my website (under the section,
Gann Illustrated) to make it available throughout the year as the markets change.
Some may find it useful.

W.D.Gann: "Watch January 2nd to 7th and 15th to 21st; watch these time
periods each year and note the high and low prices. Until these high
prices are crossed or low prices broken, consider the trend up or down."

Market Time High Low

Dow 01/02 - 01/07 8072.91 7751.56
Dow 01/15 - 01/21 7908.00 7651.66
Dow 01/22 - 12/18 9457.95 7379.70

NasDaq 01/02 - 01/07 1602.88 1547.52
NasDaq 01/15 - 01/21 1590.66 1541.29
NasDaq 01/22 - 12/18 2086.14 1357.10

RUT 01/02 - 01/07 437.06 429.79
RUT 01/15 - 01/21 431.31 421.75
RUT 01/22 - 12/18 492.28 303.87
--

The Dow30:
Is interesting because it has been both higher and lower than the time
periods outlined by Gann. However we have recovered from the October
lows and have again crossed above the lows set by the defining time
periods. Currently, according to Gann's January effect, the Dow is
still in a bull market.

NasDaq:
This has also exceeded the lows and the highs of the time parameters set
by Gann. This would certainly speak to the volatility of our markets.
However, Nasdaq is currently setting new highs and as a result, would
certainly be considered to be in a bull market as outlined by Gann's
January effect.

Russell 2000:
The small caps have definitely had a difficult year. The table shows
that the low was indeed lower than the time parameters set by Gann. It
can also be noted that Rut has have never exceeded those highs set in
January. We are currently at 397.42 in the Russell 2000 which is below
the low point in the January time period. As a result, Rut is still in
a bear market.

GT,
In my (unsuccessful) efforts to gain some insights of Gann studies, I did see a 'Gann oscillator' or something that looks like one. It shows overbought / sold scenarios.

Do you know if there is a Gann formula that can be used in Metastock (or any other software)? It seems to me (I may very well be WRONG) that overbought / oversold is the function of W.D. Gann studies.

GT, is there such an indicator as a 'Gann oscillator'?
If I didn't see one I wouldn't ask.

Good luck to you, JC Grimes, Tampa
