Craig,

This player has 2 MMC slots, so I can double-up the capacity. I know that 16 MB of memory seems a bit insufficient, but recall that some of the early digital cameras came with 2 and 4 MB or CF memory and the Olympus D-600L came with a 4 MB SmartMedia card (which held something like 4 hi-resolution images).

I think that there is enough memory for the time being to at least store an uncut version of "Stairway to Heaven".

Thread,

A interesting story about .mp3 on the cover of Wall Street Journal today. Many recording artists envision .mp3 as a fantastic means of promoting records, concerts and upcoming releases. The industry executives who are making a killing on CD sales see it as a threat to their bottom line. Some well known groups are pushing hard to tailor this technology in a way that everyone can benefit from it.

My understanding is that Diamond Multimedia has been successful in thwarting some of the initial lawsuits against Rio! If things develop favorably I hope that CF and MMC will again be central players in a potentially explosive market. Digital cameras and .mp3 players could be big hits for Christmas 1999.

Let's hope the telecommunications and portable computing fronts also pan out for SNDK.
