Tony,

I totally agree with your analysis. Despite of these shortcomings, INTC still looks a whole lot better than the other one.

Regards,
Ibexx

(Intel has come out saying 1Q99 is looking even stronger than 4Q98. I think it was with respect to revenues, but I imagine it might be earnings also.)

Are you sure that you're not referring to the mistake made by Dow Jones and others in taking a December repetition in a speech of a November press release as a new favorable outlook? It seems awfully early for INTC to talk about 1Q99 before the 4Q98 earnings report in mid January.

Any reference would be appreciated.

Regards, Don

Tony and All,
Today was an amazingly great day for quality techstocks. For low volume, these stocks advanced tremendously. Look at the numbers:

Sym, % of normal volume , % stock increase
INTC, 62%, 2.41%
MSFT, 76%, 0.47%
CSCO, 54%, 2.65%
DELL, 34%, 2.73%
SAP , 60%, 3.27%
QWST, 92%, 3.71%
RMBS, 50%, 3.16%
VTSS, 52%, 3.97%
LU , 75%, 4.43%
ASND, 100%, 4.85%

Observation: Most of these stocks in my portfolio shows todays low volume. What surprises me is the huge gain despite the low volume. Looks to me that the quality techstocks are going to 'go through the roof'! Any comments?

humble carl

Tony, RE:<<Intel has come out saying 1Q99 is looking even stronger than 4Q98. I think it was with respect to revenues, but I imagine it might be earnings also. >>

My understanding is that Intel has not made anywhere near that kind of specific reference to 1Q 99. The only information I can recall is Intel saying that 1Q 99 looks strong. There are 5 analysts that see higher 1Q 99 earnings vs 4Q 98, but they are still in the minority.

That said, I think that the 1Q 99 estimates Ibexx posted are too low. The average setimate that I see per Zacks and IBES is $1.00.
