I just wanted to add some things. Apple cannot, by law, tell the retailer what price to sell at. I'm used to using MSRP (manufacturer's suggested retail price), not MAP (manufacturer's ??? price).

Most likely, BB is bailing out of the Mac business on low turnover. There is no other logical reason for them to attract buyers to a zero profit deal. The other retailers will have to aggressively mark down and will be hurt in the pocket book during prime time. Apple will take the heat for inviting that BB B. to the party.

If however, BB simply used advance information of a impending wholesale price cut with inventory protection by Apple, that would play out very differently. The other retailers would follow suit, and Apple would be selling more iMacs and enjoying it somewhat less.

In either case the market may see it as the logical result of inventory buildup. That preconception seems to already be priced into the stock, so the mark down could spur buying of AAPL based on the company's quick reaction and continued execution.

Eric, what do you think about the possible "second order" effects of the BB $999 iMac? e.g., aggressive price drop leading to boost in sales and improved market share. Do you think these could be sufficient to overcome the short term loss in revenue?

Marc, send friends to BBuy for iMac, CPUsa for peripherals and software.

Whatever is up, BestBuy has never supported the mac platform/users around my town one lick. Take their iMacs at cost, then move your friends over to a retailer that is gonna support them to buy the peripherals and software that has some small profit left in it. JMO.

Anyone know if these are "Rev. A" iMacs? Most people I know in the market wouldn't care about the difference for $300 off.

I agree that this is a sneak attack on CPU.
