Thanks for the reply, WTC.

I'm familiar with IDSL, & has your post correctly points out is not a real improvement over ISDN. You are probably correct. The rep I was talking to was likely misinformed.

You seem quite knowledgeable in this area. How do you envision the excess loop distance issue ultimately being resolved? Isn't likely to be resolved the extension of a fiber-optic cable up to the "remote" area in conjunction with a DLC?

How feasible is it for an ILEC to reconfigure the jurisdiction of its COs? For example, while I'm approximately 40,000 ft from the Beverly Hills CO, I'm only 'bout 18,000 ft from the CO in Van Nuys. Its obvious the developer of my tract wanted the Beverly Hills exchange, just like pushing to have that "right" zip code. But when it comes to broadband access, I'll take that 818 area code; I don't give a @@#%. I'm 'bout 1/4 mi from Muholland, which is the boundary b/w 213 & 818 area codes. Is a DSL connection via the Van Nuys CO a possibility?

On a separate note, for those interested in the DSL v. Cable "race," here's some recently released research.
