The Financial Post reports in its Friday edition that Yamana Resources is a top stock pick of Malvin Spooner, vice-president of Toronto's YMG Capital Management. Buy and Sell columnist Sonita Horvitch notes that the stock, recently 85 cents, has a 52-week range of $2.25 to 56 cents. Mr. Spooner says that drilling results from Yamana's silver-rich deposit in Argentina are excellent. Yamana is a gold and silver exploration company has interests in Latin America and the Asia-Pacific region. Mr. Spooner says that although the energy sector rebounded nicely in the fall, it has taken a breather lately, due to dismal world oil prices. He suggests that investors take advantage of fallen energy stock prices to load up on companies offering substantial production growth. Overall, Mr. Spooner says that Canadian equities should do well into next year, once the yearend tax-loss selling abates. He believes the worst is over for the Asian economic crisis and its impact on the Canadian equity market. Mr. Spooner says the best gains will be in those stock market sectors that were dominated by the crisis this year.
