I have no source (URL or news report) for the costs I stated.

News reports for years now have described the base cost of a bare-bones cruise missle at $1million. To launch 2 or 3 hundred of them a day, with support, etc., is easily $1billion a day on my calculator. B-52 sorties for 15 aircraft, Diego Garcia-Bagdad and return, with 8 each of the larger (2,000 lb) cruise missles is substantially more than $1million each.

Also, in 1991, they offically announced that the cost of Desert Storm was $1billion a day (and bragged that Japan and Europe were reembersing the US for costs). Now add inflation and adjust accordingly. How much does it cost to float 2 complete aircraft carrier battle groups at "condition red"? With Russia recalling its ambassador and putting its military on alert, what do you think that does to our basic costs for security at home?

I'm just curious. Is it your position that this is money well spent?
