They still have enough votes in the new House to impeach. The impeachment inquiry would have to be started again with a new Judiciary committee. This would drag on another three months at least to get to where they are now. The President has had three months to try to sway members with different versions of his apology. I would rather they finish the job now and have the Senate/House/WH close a deal in January/February. The House only changes by 5 seats in the new Congress; The Senate does not change.

Idiot's had plenty of time to practice his 'confession' in 12 months. Just get to the inevitable censure and move on. The impeachment hearings and the vote are the actual punishment of embarrassment, nothing more.
