I don't think S3 is out of the woods yet. The P6 bus license is interesting though. The article (not the press release) says that S3 will have an integrated core logic/graphics product in 1999 (this could just be misguided speculation though). Where are they going to get the core logic expertise from? I don't think they could develop this from the ground up in any desirable timeframe.

Perhaps, S3 wants to use its bus license to coax other core logic companies (such as Acer Labs) to collaborate with S3 in such a way that the resulting product would be protected by the S3 license.

Yesterday's agreement gives S3 access to the P6. Not everyone will be so fortunate.

I like that part!

Sorry if the link didn't work. It's an article by Marcy Burstiner of TheStreet.com on the Intel deal. The interesting point is that buried in the press release is news related to graphic chips for set-top boxes, giving the company a new internet angle. Her point is that no one seems to have picked up on this yesterday, and if they had the stock might have skyrocketed given what has happened to anything with an internet angle to it.

It's worth a look for anyone who subscribes.
