Larry, RE: initials as monikers

Larry, I have often seen posters accused of "hiding behind" their monikers, if they do not use their full names.

I don't know whether that was your intention, but I would like to go on record anyway, as to why I use my initials.

The "b" in "jbe" stands for my maiden name, which I continue to use in my radio work (my last name is unpronouncable, and hard for the audience to remember). The "e" stands for my last name, under which I publish scholarly work.

Some of my stuff is available on the internet. If you run either Joan "b" or Joan "e" through a search engine, it will give you a bunch of titles. If I used either my maiden or married name here, it would also give you many of my SI posts. Frankly, I would prefer not to have my posts to private (and often "unserious") Coffee Shop forums to be mixed up with my serious work, and distributed to the world at large.

I think that is a legitimate reason for using initials.

(Try "Larry T. Sherwood" on metacrawler, for example. You will see what I mean.)

(You may call me "Joan", if you prefer.)

P.S. I am not quite clear why you posted this message to me, incidentally. Did you mean to post it to someone else?
