Trindy: How many votes are required for conviction, 2/3? If so, conviction is extremely unlikely. They only have 55% votes today.

it ain't over, till the fat lady sings... so, the timing of when the market will react is unpredictable... unless of course you truly believe that it has discounted it fully... which I do not... but that is just me, to err on the side of caution when I can not get an idea of the magnitude of damage to be done...

best regards

I don't see Clinton being removed from office in the Senate. I don't think anyone does.

I would think the coming "World War" to add to "Global Depression" would be a more serious concern.

Market Signals--12/18/98

The positive action on Friday had little impact on the market signals.
In the table below, the first column shows the value of the signal
and the second column, its direction. Thus, a "- -" indicates that
the signal is negative and trending still lower; a "+ 0" indicates
that the signal is positive with no short-term trend in value; a "0
-" says that the signal is at 0 and trending lower. You get the
picture.

The principal signal is the first column value. It is computed using
price and volume data, closing prices only. The methodology attempts
to determine the trend, positive, stable or negative. The second
indicator is simply a visual interpretation of the short-term
direction in the signal, thus, trend of trend.

Signals basis close 12/18

Value Trend
DOW - +
NYSE 0 +
SP100 + +
SP500 + +
TRN 0 +
Util + +
NAZ + +
A/D - 0
Vol A/D - +
Trin A/D - +

The DOW and the various A/D signals are the obvious laggards. Most of
the signals are trending higher. I see the results as saying that
we are in an indecision range. Given the recent new high on the NAZ
and the favorable readings on the S&Ps, which are approaching high
ground, the key may lie with these indexes. If the readings on these
remain positive and continue climbing, the rest of the market will
likely begin to follow. OTOH, if you are a believer that another
significant upleg cannot occur without DOW and broader market
participation, the continuing negativity of these measures points to
likely sideways action at best. It will take a lot of heat to move
these laggards to favorable trends. BWDIK
