HONG KONG, CHINA, 1998 DEC 17 (NB) -- By Adam Creed, Newsbytes. Hutchison Telecom Australia Ltd. has awarded to Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd. a
US$210 million contract for the delivery and installation of a full CDMA wireless communications system for the cities of Sydney and Melbourne.

The contract, which was announced today, was signed at Hutchison Telecom's head office in Hong Kong last week and construction of the cellular system will be
completed by March 2000.

As well as supplying and installing the CDMA network Samsung will supply handsets and provide ongoing technical and maintenance support and additional equipment to
expand the system over eight years.

Hutchison Telecom Australia has over 300,000 paging, cellular re-sale, Internet and wireless customers in Australia. The CDMA investment will increase the company's
customer base substantially.

Samsung Electronics has also announced it has been selected as a communications partner for the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. The Korean company hopes the added
exposure will pave the way for further export of CDMA systems in the Americas, China, Southeast Asia and Pacific Rim markets.

Tero: If W-CDMA will be the one to "do it right", how do you reconcile this with the fact that independent studies are showing cdma2000 has efficiency and capacity advantages over your country's magnanimous gift to humanity?

As an ambassador of the country that gave the world Rodney King, "why can't we all just get along!". Stay in Finland, avoid the Swedes, and we might just have the basis for peaceful coexistence!

Merry Christmas and an Happy New Year to you and yours!
