Tom: **OT** just read 30% of college candidates need remedial reading, writing, or math to get in now. We're truly living in the midst of what appears to be a powerfully organized dumbing-down of Americans. I'm beginning to lose confidence this isn't a temporary thing.

That is ok, the few educated money making citizens will be more than pleased to pay for everything. Of course, the voting majority can/has always vote/voted to support the party that will force them anyway...

Regards,
LG

OT-
Hi Tom,
It's difficult to think positively in this environment and I'm afraid that I overreact to cavalier comments such as "No one cares" or "No big deal". We HAVE to care. And we have to overcome this reluctance to judge lest we be judged. Somehow we have come to equate the expectation of moral behavior with a presumption that those expecting it believe they are perfect, which is ridiculous. We try-it's all we can do, and only by enforcing certain standards can we hope to maintain any standards at all.
So I guess that places us in the position --as Hyde and Livingston have been-- of seeming to be hypocrites, when the issue is not that of "he who is without sin", but of holding accountable those who violate the standards and honor of their office and our courts.
And a Happy Holiday to you and your family! There is also much in which to rejoice!
