ISOCOR Announces World's Fastest Internet Messaging Server
N-PLEX Ultra Processes Almost 3 Million Messages Per Hour -- Providing Telecom and Internet Service Providers With Competitive Advantage
SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 18, 1998-- ISOCOR (Nasdaq:ICOR - news), a leading Internet messaging and directory software developer, Friday announced the release of its N-PLEX Ultra Internet messaging server.

''This product has the capability to deliver over 800 messages per second or almost 3 million messages per hour,'' said Paul Gigg, president and chief executive officer of ISOCOR. ''N-PLEX Ultra provides an unparalleled competitive advantage for high-end Internet service providers and telecom companies that have anywhere from 100,000 to more than a million users.''

N-PLEX Ultra is designed to handle large and expanding user populations with high-end messaging requirements. An extensible and flexible architecture allows N-PLEX Ultra to provide more value-added services while allowing easy integration into existing environments. This newest addition to the N-PLEX family of products is scalable to handle millions of users through a unique distributed architecture.

''This product offers a better return on our hardware investment,'' said Tim Traver, vice president of Engineering at Simplenet, an Internet Provision Provider (IPP) in California. ''Since our implementation, we have seen dramatic savings in costs of administration, support and security.''

N-PLEX Ultra also lowers costs of operations for the messaging infrastructure and, because it scales reliably, it reduces the cost of handling millions of mailboxes. In addition, the product provides capabilities for seamless migration from existing systems and for more value-added services through custom extensions.

The differentiating features of N-PLEX Ultra that draw high-end users to this product include:

-- A distributed architecture --
-- allowing support of hundreds of thousands of new users by
simply adding new servers with no disruption to the service
-- offering a higher degree of robustness and availability in
the overall service
-- Remote management capabilities -- allowing a small and highly
skilled central team to manage servers in many different
locations
-- Anti-spamming features -- enabling protection of customers from
the annoyance of unwanted junk e-mail
-- Ease of administration -- providing a GUI-style administrative
console for ease of use and supporting a scripting language that
enables the automation of many routine tasks
-- Powerful programming interfaces (APIs) -- allowing development of
new user services in response to customer demands
-- User profile maintenance based on Java applets -- allowing
customer administration of aspects of its service, such as
password and auto-response messages that are sent when the user
is unavailable.
In order to determine the capabilities of N-PLEX Ultra, the product was tested by Sun Microsystems on its servers. ''We used a Sun E6500 server and were able to see linear scalability in message processing and retrieval as the number of CPUs was increased from two to 18,'' said Wayne Stephens, application partner sales manager, of Sun Microsystems Ltd.

Karl Klessig, ISOCOR vice president of marketing and strategic alliances, said, ''Our product is especially equipped to answer the needs of Internet Service Providers (ISPs).'' The number of electronic ''mailboxes'' provided by ISPs will double by 2002 to 60 million, according to International Data Corp., a Framingham, Mass.-based research firm.

N-PLEX Ultra is available now. Pricing varies depending on the system configuration. Further details on ISOCOR messaging and directory solutions may be found at www.isocor.com.
