Hi Alan. Sorry for the delay in responding - have been out of town to visit family and friends over the holidays and ignoring SI for the past month or so.

Given the latest results from the DD Index, I have to wonder if the 1997 results weren't a function of hype and (possibly) stock manipulation. Even allowing for the drop in the price of gold the industry experienced this year, if the DD companies really did have the "goods" in 1997, and their potential for low cost production was real, there should still be more value in these plays than your index indicates.

Any plans to continue this exercise in 1999? I wouldn't blame you if you decided to let it go.....
