Through its Alpha Software subsidiary, SoftQuad launched three new products into these channels at the end of the quarter. In addition, during the quarter Alpha Software filed an arbitration proceeding for breach of contract against Kurzweil Inc., a division of Lernout & Hauspie, over rights to market a forthcoming line of their continuous speech products. The company also announced additional components to its HoTMetaL PRO 4.0 family of products, which include HoTMetaL PowerPack and the HoTMetaL Application Server. "The fourth quarter did not meet our expectations for two reasons," said Richard Rabins, CEO, SoftQuad International. "We were disappointed with the market performance of the Voice products, and we incurred significant costs as we completed the overall restructuring of the company, a process that we pursued throughout 1997." "We feel positive about 1998," Rabins said. "Because of our position in the industry, we've been able to identify some very exciting, strategic opportunities centered around licensed properties and new platforms..." source:softquadintl.com
