VLAD: About 6-8 months ago I read an article that Iran was buying oil from Iraq at ~50% discount. It also stated that these $$$ were not accounted for ny UNSCOM. To the best of my recollection, it described trucks transporting oil. I don't remember if it was Turkey or Iran they were trucking it to. I'll try to locate that article.

I don't know "why", but why did Iraq ship many of its jet fighters to its sworn enemy Iran after the Gulf war? Bet they didn't get them back.

VLAD: I can't find the original article regarding Iraq selling oil to Iran, but here is a recent summary of same:

"Earlier this year, the department said Iraq was smuggling up to 100,000 barrels of crude oil and petroleum products a day to Turkey by truck, India and Pakistan along the Gulf coast, to Iran across the Fao Peninsula with barges and to Dubai in small tankers.

The illegal shipments may have provided Iraq with up to $700 million a year in revenue, according to the Energy Department."

EDIT: Correction. Should read Iraq selling oil to Iran.
