profanity is easy. for some it flows almost naturally. it can be hilarious. it can be succinct. in print, say on a thread, what it can not be is discreet. unlike the spoken word that can be whispered or even withheld, on the screen, profanity is there for all to see. it becomes a selfish endeavor (if you don't like it, don't read it!). it makes no apologies. it usually conjures up a negative image. and it is unnecessary. unnecessary in that every point can be made without using it, every situation described without resorting to it, and yes, every insult or putdown hurled without it.

from what i have seen, there is a challenge involved in writing without cursing, in getting your meaning or emotion across without profanity. and the writing seems to be the better for it. like there was some extra thought put into it. i like the posts where the individual has elected to exercise some restraint. we all know how to curse. there is nothing special about it. but do we all know how to speak and write clearly without cursing?

i was told the other day that some of these threads are used by students to learn about stocks. whew! think about that for a moment!

as dennis miller would say, that's my opinion, i could be wrong!
