Optical Switching is the Holy Grail-
They must be working on this - it's really the next step.
The one cheap way is to make DWDM so dense that individual wavelengths can be assigned to specific circuits which are like nailed up circuits and are not required to switch. The CEO has a Phd from CalTech and that's good preparation for such R&D.
