I'll copy the last two paragraphs from techreview.com
which is an article in TECHNOLOGY REVIEW, MIT'S Magazine of Innovation (Jan-Feb 1999 issue, P62) titled “The Tide of Prints” by Eric Scigliano, that discusses the evolution of the FBI's IAFIS system. The article is fairly long so here are just the last two paragraphs:
=====================================
German predicts the paradigm will really pop after this November, when the FBI will release Lockheed Martin's minutiae-extraction software into the public domain. “It'll be like phone-company deregulation. A lot of software companies will spring into AFIS.” Where only about 600 larger cities and agencies now have it, individual police precincts will get their own, German believes. Initially, at least, that should create much more demand for the FBI's IAFIS, as the hub of a fast-expanding network. But what about when all those little AFISes learn to swap prints and searches directly, on the Internet search-engine model?

As prices drop, German foresees, “You could build your own AFIS.” Imagine. Instead of tracking each other down by name via Hotbot or AltaVista, we'll trace each other's fingerprints. Who was that woman at the party last night? Pull a print off her wineglass. In the near future, thanks to new technology, look for gloves to become very, very fashionable.
=====================================
Does this worry anyone? Time to get the H_ll out?

Brad and all,

Direct figerprinting to replace passwords?

"Identicator Technology developed Digital fingerprinting using a process of placing a thumb on a glass lens and digitally comparing to thousands in file in under a second. Compaq has begun shipping a finger printing ID set for $99 based on Identitor's technology. Competitor's are swarming into finger print identification business with the leader being Identix (IDX) which sells systems to law enforcement agencies. Sales last year were 145 million and expected to increase to 1 Billion by 2001. ATN is considering recommending Identix (IDX) and invite reader comment."

Brad,

Who made $2.00 a share on IDX this month??? Me or you??? I sold 7.5's. The charts were off by one day. I let them take my stock and then I will buy it back and start all over again. Very simple. Didn't you sell calls as well??? My return is 20% in one month. If I can do that month in month out, which I do 72% of the time(average 14% to 26% return on call writing), when it comes to writing calls, who is better than me??? On average I will out-perform most funds and markets when it comes to doing what I do best, which these days is making money. I am on a roll that I don't even believe. Don't get me wrong, when the market tanked, I got hammered, but I took the time to re-organize my portfolio, and now have a rock solid portfolio.

Trust me, IDX will make me alot of money, I hope it makes you as much and more. My point is that selling calls on hype and BS is where it is at. These message boards give me and many others, other people's opinions and emotions which temporarally cause spikes in situations.

BTW being wrong by 1/2 point is usually considered right.

Regards,

Rob
