If that happens, if the Republican Party really gets clobbered in 2000, and it goes just to the extremists, we may just get a three party system, with the Democrats being the dominant party. As someone pointed out yesterday, the money and the activism in both parties tends to go toward the extremes, the Dems continually yanked towards the socialist left and the GOP towards the religious fundamentalist right. Leaves a WHOLE lot of people looking for an alternative to them both.
