<YOU are worried about that cute girl; I'm concerned that I'll have to see that goodlooking young man on top of the Dept of Information get blown to bits. I suppose it's more of our fascination with our own mortality that we watch.> Penni, I like your idea about the fascination with our own mortality being why we watch stuff like this. In the same context, I read an article not too long ago which connected our morbid fascination with roadside accidents and other calamities suffered by humans, with an animal instinct coming from the primitive brain which is self-protective. In other words, we watch disasters to try to figure out how to avoid one ourselves--a learning experience. I don't think I am describing the article's ideas very well at the moment, but I hope you get the idea! I think the call to prayer is enticing and peaceful, although surreal, in the middle of all the bombs going off. I think that the reporters on the roof of the Ministry of Information building are pretty safe, because I am sure the U.S. knows they are there and have marked off this area as protected. There would be a lot of international repercussions if a bomb hit them!! I do think that very wily Saddam knows this as well, and has located a bunker in the basement, connected with a secret tunnel from across town. He is probably there having a good laugh and a big cigar. One thing I do not understand is a statement in the news yesterday that we would of course NOT bomb any suspected chemical weapons facilities, because we wouldn't want innocent Iraqi humans put in danger. If we are not gunning for Saddam, and are making no attempt to destroy the capacity for "weapons of mass destruction" as Clinton says over and over again, a cynic might even think that there was some kind of rank and selfish political motivation for all this bombing!!
