Christine,
Those things are not in the least in line with anything I have ever read about Mother Thearesa. They are also not in line with what is widely believed and accepted by most if not all historians regarding her life and work.

Remember, I can show you sites that denigrate Martin Luther King, Ghandi, or any other real and legitimate hero, sies that will show warts that are to some degree true, and to some degree not. There are no perfect people, and hero's are the easiet to tear down.

I am not christian, but in many people's zeal to tear down the church, they attack any bright light in the christian horizon. Again, some may be true, and much isn't. Nothing in this world is wholly good or evil, and that includes all our heros and insititutions, religious or otherwise.

Mother Thereasa spent her life in leper colonies and the worst slums oin the planet, trying to help people. I'm sorry that you dont like the methods she used, but it certainly wasnt for her own gain or comfort, and I am fairly sure that it is far more than either you or I have ever done.

mark

Hi, Christine, just want to go on record with agreeing with you, based on what i've read-- much the same as what you've read-- about Mother Teresa. And on the fact that no one who praises her denies that she opposed birth control in India, hobnobbed with Duvalier and the like, opposed painkillers, and in general, seemed to glory in the suffering of the poor. Or that she had very excellent medical care herself.

Before we had our daughter, we thought about whether we really ought to, instead of bringing another child into the world, adopt an unfortunate child who was already here. We eventually decided, selfishly, I recognize, to have our own child; but not before we sent for information to a Christian organization which was publishing heartrending appeals for adoptive parents for tragically impoverished children. Imagine my surprise when the forms we received back said our application would only be considered if we were "true born-again Christians."

So it doesn't surprise me that Mother Teresa would rather have a wretched child continue in wretchedness forever than allow someone of another religion to give the child a loving home and a full, happy life. Those Christians, what will they think of to help humanity next!
