>>>Washington-Dec. 19-FWN--REP. BOB LIVINGSTON (R-La.)
today announced that he won't seek speakership of the House
of Representatives, and will resign from the House within
the next few months.

Livingston said he could not, under present
circumstances, accept House speakership and would set an
example by stepping aside. He said his decision to do so is
for the good of the country, and called on President Clinton
to resign from office, also, for the good of the country.

Thoughts on impact of this? <<<<<

The impact is that he will resign and Pres. Clinton will not. If one person jumps off of a bridge should others follow him. Just because someone cheats on his spouse doesn't mean they have to resign from office. If that were the case there might be no one working out there. He knows that he would be disgraced when this all comes public because he was one of the biggest advocates of what a terrible thing Bill did. Now he is being used as an example by the republicans so they can say, "See, Livingdton resigned, so should the president." Since when is cheating on your spouse a crime.
I agree it's a moral sin but it has nothing to do with the business world or politics.
Again, I think the republicans have lost touch with reality. They have a personal vendetta with Mr Clinton and will stop at nothing to try and get him to resign or disgrace him even more. They are losing the battle and just disgracing themselves. Right now I am an ashamed republican. I doubt for long though.

Livingston is mistaken if he thinks Clinton will follow suit. It seems that the Republicans are acting according to what they feel is morally responsible and this Democrat acts only according to what is politically expedient.
