Marginmike and all,

From Perry's CDG web site,

"In order to facilitate domestic and international roaming, the availability of multi-mode phones is rapidly expanding. Dual band/dual mode PCS CDMA/AMPS phones and dual mode cellular CDMA/AMPS phones are available from a number of manufacturers and will be joined soon by a tri-mode PCS CDMA/cellular CDMA/AMPS phone. These handset models offer the consumer the advantages of CDMA digital services along with expanded coverage."

First, Who will be the first one to the market with this tri-mode model? Hey. Sony and Sanyo are the only two besides QCOM to produce PCS dual band and mode phones. May be Nokia and MOT will beat QCOM this time. (gg)

Second, Does not automatically expand CDMA's coverage even more deep into ie. US if roaming agreements reached between CDMA PCS and celluar phone operators?

By The Associated Press

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - A Malaysian man was able to save himself
and three relatives from drowning after their fishing boat capsized in rough
seas by calling police on a mobile phone, a report said Sunday.

Ong Peng Hong, 36, who had wrapped his portable handheld phone in plastic,
was able to contact police as he clung to the capsized boat about one nautical
mile from shore, state-run Bernama news agency reported.

Police immediately dispatched a crew to rescue the man, his two young sons
and his brother, from waters off the southern western state of Malacca, the
report said.
