Hi AJ,

You amaze me, what is your interest in Thyssen, ??.

In the past (Canadian)I had a significant contact with Thyssen, what is rather interesting is the URL you provided which gave there homebase as South Kirby.

Just ask them about, Frickley, Moncton, Grimethorpe etc, all Coal Mines in the NCB era. My Apprenticeship was with NCB HQ Grimethorpe, South Kirby and all the others were part of No 4 Carlton Area. That was pre-Canadian times.

Thyssen Mining came into Sask along with Cementation after sinking of the PCA shaft. They also did other work to survive the non-shaft sinking era that followed. They did a major deep sewer tunneling job for the City of Saskatoon, (the pumphouse is just over the tracks in Sutherland) amongst other things.

Anyway, I was surprised to see a name resurrected from the past but a greater surprise was the office location in South Kirby. (Not quite my birthplace, but within a few miles)

But what may be a greater surprise is my civility.

Merry Xmas

Terence (Buffalo) Mitchell
