House Minority Leader Richard Gephardt, who was considering running against Gore,
may decide to stay in the House of Representatives and bet that Democrats can regain the
majority there in 2000. Trailing the Republicans by only 12 seats, they would have a good
chance of doing so if the party keeps the White House, and Gephardt would become
Speaker.
