John, I agree. Dell has been dead for months. I had been selling the 65 calls forever, and my 1,000 finally got called as of yesterday. I had bought another 1,000 ~65 this week while I waited to decide what to do, and yesterday sold the FEB 80 Calls for $2,375.
I will keep selling the 80 calls every month until my stock gets called and reevaluate then. Hope I make as much money this go around.
Buying more CPQ Monday also, still have the bulk of my money here.
GO CPQ !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Robbie

John: About 3 weeks ago, I posted that if DELL moved down I would buy some. I was promptly told I was "mad" by a certain poster - so I understand your apprehension about being booed. But that kind of comment has not been previously characteristic of this thread.

I noted with interest that rudedog said he would not be adding to his DELL position, although he might not sell, either.

In principle, I think it an excellent idea to have an exit point for CPQ and an entrance for DELL purely as a trading strategy. I still think that from present levels, CPQ is a surer bet for a double in the next twelve months than DELL. But a more depressed DELL could give a nice short-term ride espescially if CPQ has reached a temporary apogee, let us say in January, February.

JOHN: Interesting article in this Jan. issue of Money Ragazine. "Showdown" Compaq vs. Dell. Explains how Janus fund hold 40 million shares of Dell and how Dell has an 8 day float after selling pc before it pays its supplier for parts. Quote "That, says John Schreiber, an analyst for Janus funds, is a thing of beauty"

article is positive on both companies, forward looking.

if I ever fiqure out how to scan something and then get it on this thread, I'll do it, but I have enough trouble finding the on/off switch, thank God I got a seven year old

John,

I was considering picking up some DELL myself.....
all of us on this thread know that it is NOT cpq vs. dell.....
we understand that they only compete in certain areas of a large market place. This thread has evolved into "making money" thread....
and I for one, like it.
