Both TIVO and Replay use the encoder chip made by a company whose name rhymes with "phoney" (like the brand of television Homer Simpson bought). Buy a box and open it up!

Unfortunately for you, it's very real, and the quality is improving.

Reason: cheap, doesn't have PCI bus.
