If I were AMGN, looking at my cap of $20 billion, thinking about my pipeline, I'd issue 10% of my shares, raise $2 billion, and own the 3rd tier universe. You could swallow ONXX, LKST, ARIA, MCDE, ABSC, OSIP, GENE, ALXN, NPSP, SIBI, ARQL... Actually, they might only need 5%!!!
I would bet that '99 will be a solid biotech year, with significant consolidation, with large cap biotechs(e.g., BGEN/AMGN/GENZ/GNE/MEDI/BCHE/IMNX) picking up "bargains".

<<Do they still own 25% of Modex? Does anyone know if Modex is doing anything beyond encapsulation stuff?>>

Yes, they still own 25% of Modex. They did scale back license agreement with Modex (in October 97) regardless that new agreement include two new target for encapsulated technology: Factor VIII and IX for hemophilia A and B (previous ones are for diabetes, obesity, and anemia).

What is Modex doing today I do not have any clue.
Recently CTII adapted shareholder right plan, I guess as protection from *hostile bayer*, or to screw small investor like me.

Does this new technology license from Scripts suggest/indicate path by which they intend to solve problem with allogenic steam cells implant(immunology and differentiation/factor)?
